Welcome to the Amesbury History Alliance Website

The Amesbury History Alliance provides a dedicated platform for the publication of historical studies of Amesbury and its immediate environs, with the aim of fostering a deeper understanding of the local history.

We support new research, particularly with relation to the lesser-documented periods of the past 2,000 years, and the revival of earlier accounts where they enhance the greater understanding.

Contributions from all researchers are welcomed, provided they engage rigorously and respectfully with the shared aim of illuminating Amesbury's historical tapestry.  Submissions should demonstrate a clear and evidenced connection to Amesbury—whether through themes, geography, or archival sources. The Amesbury Hundred and its historically contiguous jurisdictions serve as the suggested geographical areas of reference.

This platform is entirely independent and unaffiliated with any other organization. All published work remains the sole intellectual property of the author. No reproduction, citation, or adaptation is permitted without explicit permission of the author.

The term 'Ambresbyrig' has been chosen as a label because it is the earliest name of the town that has been identified - so far! The name dates from the Saxon period.
